Cherry Blossom Clay Peonies DIY

We came across this gorgeous DIY at Amy Atlas' website. The clay peonies were created by Diane from DK Designs who have shared her crafts on the Martha Stewart Show! Here's the instructions, enjoy!

SUPPLIES

  • 1 Pack each of Claycraft by Deco soft clay in white and red. If you want to make buds, you will need yellow and blue
  • Wet paper towel (work surface)
  • White tacky glue
  • Wire cutters
  • Soft Foam
  • 2 rounded end detail sticks
  • Detail scissors
  • Acrylic paints/paint brushes if you wish to accent paint
  • 24 or 30gr paper wrapped floral wire
  • Brown floral tape
  • Brown branches (can be found at a floral supply store or craft store)
  • Single shot glass or small votice case
  • Colored candy coated chocolates

1. Open up a set of wet paper towels. Mix 1/3 of the package of white with a tiny amount of red clay. Knead the clay by pulling apart and pushing back together until the color is mixed through. Make balls 1/2 inch in diameter.

2.  Make teardrops out of the balls using the heal of your right hand while keeping your left hand stationary to roll the teardrop shape.
3. Cut the teardrop slight off center, almost half way down lengthwise.  On the fatter side, cut twice to make 3 petals and cut the other side in half.  You should have a total of 5 petals.
4.  With a skewer or round toothpick, roll each petal out on your index finger. Before you roll the petal out completely, notch the petal in the middle and roll out again to create the heart shape.  Do this for all five petals.
5. Using the fat end of the largest round detail stick, indent each petal by pusing the petal down into the soft foam, to cup each petal.  You can choose not to do this step if you want your petals to be flat.
6. Place the fat end of the smaller detail stick into the center of the petals to make a hold for the stamen peps.  Take about 4-5 double-ended peps, fold in half, cut off the bottom, add glue and insert into the hole.  Taper the bottom of the clay to a point.
7.  Apply glue to 24 or 30g wire and insert into the bottom of the flower and let dry on a piece of styrofoam for roughly 12 hours.
8. If you wish, you can paint your flowers, but it is not necessary.  Using brown floral tape, tape the buds and flowers onto the branches in various positions.
When you have achieved the desired branch look you want, simply fill your glass with your favorite candies and insert the branch.

Today we're moving onto another project: DIY pom-pom. The day started rough as we tried to get familiar with the camera and settings. By mid day tough, we've got some great pictures on our cameras. I love the white and pale palates, they remind me of weddings themes. Love, love, love it.

DIY Sweet Paper Doily

Today we had fun trying to figure out how to make a DIY Paper Doily tutorial. It was our first time doing it and I was trying to figure out how to use this super cool SLR camera I borrowed from my brother-in-law. What's aperture? F-what? Which button Grace (my assistant)? hahahaha.... She knows better than I.

Finally we manage to get it done and post it for you guys... I think we did a pretty good job for first timers. Enjoy!!!

WHAT YOU NEED: color papers, scissors, x-acto knife, cutting matt, glue, ribbon/string

DIY:
  1. You will need a square paper and fold it diagonally into triangle shape twice.
  2. Open the flaps and fold both flap outward once again into smaller triangle shape.
  3. Now you can start trimming parts of the edge of your triangle, but keep in mind that you need to leave enough so that when you open your triangle they still connect.
  4. To make smaller cuts within the triangle shape, use x-acto knife. Be creative and organic with it what you are doing. Don't  be afraid to make the cuts, it will look great anyway!
  5. Open the folds and... Viola!!  Do several more and attach them into a string to make a pretty garland.

D.I.Y Lace Tiles

Do-it-yourself Lace Tiles

from marthastewart.com

This quick, easy and beautiful do-it-yourself project is a must do for lace lovers. It's so easy and quick to do. The lace acts as a stencil on the tiles and the fine details it produces are amazing. The tiles can be used for wall decor, trivets and other projects. The possibility are endless!

How To:

1. Spray one side of a piece of lace with spray adhesive (like Super 77)
2. Smooth it onto the surface of a ceramic tile. The glue will hold it firmly in place.
3. Spray quickly, (just enough to get an even color) with any spray paint or spray enamel (Montana colors and Krylon).

4. You don't even need to wait for the paint to dry, just carefully pull off the lace (even though the spray mount is 'permanent,' it will come off easily.)

WHAT YOU WILL NEED
  • Fairy Floss - You can use different flavors/colors or use only one flavour with different coloured labels
  • Transluscent Paper with white polka dots for the envelopes.
  • White printable sticker paper or white card for labels- I've used a textured white card.
  • Double sided tape or glue.
  • Scalpel and Scissors.
  • Colour Printer.
  • Rounded corner punch - for envelopes
  • Small clear plastic sealable bags- these will need to fit inside the transluscent bag. (If they are too long they can always be folded back slightly).
  • Label design in assorted colours- download below.
  • Envelope template- DOWNLOAD HERE

INSTRUCTIONS
Print out your envelope design onto transluscent, white polka dot paper and using the scalpel, cut out, score along fold lines (indicated by dotted lines) and construct your envelope. I've used double sided tape on the side tabs to stick the envelope together. Use the rounded corner punch on the corners of the lid.
Put your Pashmak into a sealable bag and make sure it is sealed thoroughly. Slip this bag into your transluscent envelope.
Print our your labels and cut out with scalpel.  For the rounded semi-circle edge, I found that cutting carefully and slowly with a scissors produced quite an accurate cut and I didn't need anything more sophisticated than that.
If you are using white card, put a strip of double sided tape along the length of the back of your label and stick onto the front of the bag. (View photos for positioning).
IMPORTANT INFO
Because of the nature of Fairy Floss, it should be stored in a dark, cool place in an airtight container. Because of this it is probably best to package your favours at the very last possible moment before your wedding or party, (perhaps the day before) and it is crucial that you store it inside a sealable bag first before you put it into your transluscent envelope. In fact, to be on the safe side I would actually experiment before the event and test to see whether leaving the Pashmak in your sealable bag will preserve it adequately overnight.
